We took an office trip, last Friday, to check in on the projects in downtown Lancaster.

LMAG (Lancaster Museum & Art Gallery) is starting to show its shape next to Arbor Lofts.

The "Jewel Box" sticks out over the improved Blvd.

They continue to make fast work of Long Beach. The scaffolding should come down soon and will get a real look at the building. But, until then here are some current photos: The stucco has been installed all over the building

Sagebrush consists of two projects: a 21 unit townhouse project and a 47 unit project consisting of 10 townhouse and 37 flats in a five story building. The townhouses from both projects wrap the perimeter of the site and the five story building occupies the center of the site.

There are a few designs for prospective projects in the office right now. We will try and share them with you this month. First up is an 81 unit affordable project in Los Angeles. The site and program have dictated a long Southern façade on this project. The intent is to activate the southern façade by highlighting these passive systems. By attaching colored panels to the vertical shading structures on the South facade the movement of the sun will continually alter the elevation throughout the day. We will share more of this design as the project progresses.

CJ's Cafe is the local diner in our area, good food and great prices. It has a good combo of Mexican and Soul food inspired dishes. Whatever you have you will leave here satisfied.

Umami Burger

We tried Umami Burger @ La Brea and 8th today. All the meat eaters seemed to agree that the burgers were delicious. Only afterwards did I find out that they serve an off the menu mushroom burger. We all thought the malt liquor onion rings were great. It only took Alfredo
one bite of the burger to give it the Alfredo rating. Go with time on your hands, since it was slow for a burger joint.

Clinton Grand Opening

April 23, 2009 was the grand opening for the Clinton Family Apartments. Since the project is in District 13 Eric Garcetti's office helped in making the effort a reality. He attended the opening and expressed his appreciation for the entire project team.

This Friday we headed over to the Hayden Tract to see some Eric Owen Moss Projects, as well as checking out the progress on the Expo line. The Expo line is coming along, still has a ways to go though. Conveniently located in this complex is The Point, where we settled down and had some tasty Veggie Burgers.

Richard returned from the Clinton job site this morning, unusually giddy, maybe because of his prized find. Apparently these are called Morel Mushrooms and are considered quite a delicacy. The Pitaway

We checked out a new place today called The Pitaway. It's @ 8532 W. Pico Blvd, right next to Nick's Coffee . The menu has shawarma, lamb, chicken, kebab, falafel etc either in plate, pita, or wrap form. I went for the falafel pita which was delicious and they had spicy relish for it! (does anyone know the name of the relish?) Honestly, any falafel place where they smile is a step up in this neighborhood, so we happily welcome the Pitaway.

Holy Cow Indian Express

Indian Food was the order of the day. Catharine recommended this restaurant for us to try, and since no one else placed any suggestions on the blog, we had no alternative. Holy Cow has a good name, and an even better graphic for a restaurant. The food was excellent, flavorful but not overdone with spices; a great find, thanks again Catharine.

These are some old renderings of Sagebrush I. The project has changed quite a bit since these images. In this scheme the units are all townhouses, with private roof decks. This project is also located in Downtown Lancaster.

Sky's Gourmet Tacos

Today we headed out to Sky's Tacos, one of our favorite restaurants near the office. What makes their tacos unique is the flavor, aquired by the "Splash of Soul" influence. Today we had the Spicy Crawfish (my favorite), Mahi, and Salmon Tacos as well as the Steak Torta.

If anyone has any recommendations for our next friday lunch, we take suggestions.

Echo Park

This was a proposed project along the periphery of Echo Park Lake. We submitted these images in a mini-competition but lost out. It has some nice gestures, especially the way you entered the second floor courtyard; shown on the 2nd image from the top, where the stairs go up a terraced landscape area.

Rincon Chileno

Every Friday, as an office, we like to go out to Lunch and try a little something different. Our mission today was to locate a quality Chacarero sandwich. Charles had been insisting we try this "amazing sandwich" for months, but we kept resisting since it is a long drive from our office. Today we finally caved to his wishes and ended up in a tiny Deli on Melrose Ave, we didn't realize that they had a sit down restaurant until after we finished our meal at the tiny table inside the Deli. To be honest though, it made the meal that much more enjoyable. The Chacarero was great and the Espinaca and Queso Empanadas were delicious, they earned the elusive Alfredo Rating.
