5555 Hollywood - Nearing Completion

We walked 5555 Hollywood Monday and it's getting close. The intrest list has closed with over 2,500 applicants!

The Serrano - Concrete deck formwork

 Construction of the concrete deck formwork has began.  Plywood (which is essentially the bottom of the concrete deck) is securely attached to metal scaffolding below.  Many, many building systems must be coordinated before any concrete can be poured. It's amazing how much material is used for formwork... Once the concrete deck is set then it all gets taken down and reused (hopefully) somewhere else!

The Serrano - Rebar being installed


Waterproofing is installed and secured in place.  The rebar is installed in a solid grid, making sure that each rebar intersection is securely tied...so tight that several men can walk on it!!!

The Serrano - 3 weeks into construction...

Construction has begun on The Serrano project.  Shoring is in place. The "hole" gets deeper and deeper to allow for subterranean parking garage.

The Serrano - Official Ground Breaking

The official Ground Breaking ceremony took place today at The Serrano job site.  Among many speakers, Richard Solares of PSL Architects gave a brief description of the project.

The Serrano is a 44-unit, Multi-Family Affordable Housing project in Korea Town area in Los Angeles, CA.  6-story, Residential building, at a little over 52,000SF, will provide 1, 2 and 3-bedroom apartment units ranging from 652 SF -1,213SF.  Common areas include: 2 community rooms, computer area, management office and laundry room.  A central courtyard houses a tot lot and landscaped gardens with sitting areas. Parking is provided on two levels with easy access to the Entry Lobby area.
